“How much for a website?” is the first question almost every Malaysian business owner asks — and the honest answer is “it depends”. This guide gives you realistic ranges in Ringgit, explains what drives the price, and shows you what to ask so you're comparing like with like.
Quick answer: most Malaysian SMEs spend between RM2,500 and RM10,000 on a professional business website, and RM6,000 to RM30,000+ on an online store. DIY builders cost less upfront but often cost more in lost leads. These are typical market ranges, not a quote.
Typical website price ranges in Malaysia
| Type of website | Typical price (RM) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| DIY builder (Wix, Squarespace, etc.) | RM0 – 1,500 / year | Very small side projects, tight budgets |
| Template-based freelancer site | RM1,500 – 3,500 | Simple online presence |
| Agency business website (5–10 pages) | RM3,000 – 10,000 | SMEs that want leads and credibility |
| Online store (Shopify / WooCommerce) | RM6,000 – 30,000+ | Brands selling products online |
| Custom web app or portal | RM25,000 – 100,000+ | Bookings, member portals, integrations |
These ranges reflect what we commonly see across the market. At The Double K, our fixed-price packages start from RM2,800 — see the current pricing page.
What drives the cost up or down?
- Number of pages and complexity. A 5-page company site is far simpler than a 40-page site with filters and calculators.
- Custom design vs. template. Truly custom design takes more design hours, but helps you stand apart.
- Languages. English, Bahasa Melayu and Chinese versions multiply content and QA effort.
- Features. Online payments (FPX, cards, e-wallets), booking, membership and CRM integration all add scope.
- Copywriting and photography. Quality content takes time. Ask who writes it and who owns the photos.
- SEO and tracking. Proper SEO structure and analytics set-up should be included, not treated as optional extras.
The ongoing costs people forget
- Domain name: roughly RM40–120 per year depending on the extension (.com, .my, .com.my).
- Hosting: from a few hundred Ringgit per year for shared hosting to several thousand for high-traffic stores. Choose servers in Malaysia or Singapore for faster load times.
- Maintenance: updates, backups and security. See our website care plans.
- Premium plugins and themes: usually annual licences.
- Payment gateway and platform fees: for online stores, charged by providers per transaction or per month.
- Marketing: a website doesn't bring traffic by itself. Budget for SEO or ads.
Red flags when comparing quotes
- Prices that are suspiciously low with no mention of hosting, SEO or revision rounds.
- No written scope. You should see exactly which pages, features and revisions are included.
- You don't own the site. Make sure the domain, hosting and files are registered in your name.
- No mobile design preview. Most visitors will see your site on a phone.
- No plan for after launch. Ask about support, training and maintenance.
How to choose the right budget
Start from your goal, not your budget. If one new customer is worth RM2,000 to your business, a website that brings three extra enquiries a month pays for itself quickly. Work backwards: how many enquiries do you need, and what conversion rate is realistic?
If you're launching and need something credible quickly, a focused 5-page site with WhatsApp integration and good local SEO is often the smartest first step. You can add an online store, bilingual pages or automation later.
